Treatments

Conditions and treatments, explained without theatre jargon.

These notes help you prepare for a visit at SeCURE Hospital, Hubballi. They are not a diagnosis or a promise of a particular operation.

Endourology

Kidney & ureteric stones

From a grain of sand to a staghorn calculus — evaluation, pain control, and the right procedure for size and location.

Kidney and ureteric stones can cause loin pain, blood in the urine, fever, or a blocked kidney. After examination and imaging (ultrasound or CT), treatment may be medicines to help a small stone pass, or surgery: URSL, RIRS with laser, or PCNL for larger stones.

Men’s urinary health

Prostate & BPH

Poor stream, night-time urine, incomplete emptying — assessed with examination, ultrasound, and PSA when indicated.

Benign prostatic enlargement is common after middle age. Care may start with medicines. When symptoms persist, or when there is retention, infection, or bladder stones, TURP or other endoscopic prostate surgery may be discussed.

Keyhole urology

Endourology & laparoscopy

Cameras and fine instruments through natural passages or small ports — less incision, faster return to routine when suitable.

Endourology uses cystoscopes and ureteroscopes to treat stones, strictures, and bladder tumours from inside the urinary tract. Laparoscopic and robotic-assisted surgery is used for selected kidney, prostate, and reconstructive operations.

Reconstructive urology

Urethral stricture

A narrowed urine passage can thin the stream, cause straining, or recurrent infection. Repair is planned after mapping the stricture.

Strictures may follow infection, injury, or previous catheter or surgery. Diagnosis uses uroflowmetry, imaging, and cystoscopy. Options range from endoscopic widening to reconstructive urethroplasty.

Kidney, bladder, prostate, testis

Uro-oncology

Blood in urine, a testicular lump, or a prostate concern — prompt evaluation and staged treatment with the hospital team.

Cancers of the kidney, bladder, prostate, and testis are managed with imaging, biopsy when needed, and surgery such as TURBT, nephrectomy, or prostatectomy, coordinated with oncology when required.

Everyday urinary care

UTIs & general urology

Burning urine, frequency, incontinence, or recurrent infections — treated after the cause is found, not only with repeated antibiotics.

Urinary infections, overactive bladder, difficulty passing urine, and haematuria are common reasons to see a urologist. Work-up may include urine tests, ultrasound, and looking into the bladder.

Male fertility & sexual health

Andrology

Infertility, varicocele, and erectile difficulty — discussed privately, with medical and surgical options when they help.

Andrology covers male infertility (including semen analysis and varicocele), erectile dysfunction, and selected reconstructive or implant procedures. Conversations are confidential.

Children’s urinary care

Paediatric urology

Undescended testis, hypospadias, reflux, and childhood stones — evaluated with paediatric-aware protocols.

Children with urinary infections, congenital anomalies, or stones are seen with parents present. Imaging and surgery, when needed, are explained in plain language.

With the SeCURE transplant programme

Kidney transplant

Recipient and donor evaluation, surgery, and follow-up as part of the hospital’s transplant and nephrology team.

As consultant urologist at SeCURE Hospital, Hubballi, Dr. Shambhu works with the hospital transplant and nephrology team. Transplant is a team pathway — nephrology, anaesthesia, immunology, and urology.
